The Story Behind the Bridesmaid Robe.

A wedding day is one of the most important days in a women’s life. They are coming together to marry the person that they love. The people that are their for the brides are there amazing friends, and bridesmaids. You would do anything to thank these girls, and show them how much they mean to you.

When my cousin was planning her wedding, she really wanted to give her bridesmaids things that would help them remember the wedding day. This gift was also for her to say thank you to them for all that they have done for her. So what did we do, we hit the Internet. We wanted something that they could use on the wedding day, and be able to have a special photograph in.

We found these beautiful robes, with the bridesmaids name on it and the wedding date.  These beautiful robes cost $85 dollars each. My cousin had 10 girls in her bridal party. So these amazing robes would cost her $850. Now that doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you are planning a wedding you want to save as much money as possible in anyway possible. To save some money we decided to make these robes ourselves.  We went to target and we found these beautiful coral thin robes; we paid around $70 for all 10 robes. Then we made our way to Wal-Mart and we bought our sleeves iron on sparkly letter, which cost us $15.  We went home and placed the letters onto the robes where we wanted to have them. We decided to write the words “Bridesmaid” and “Maid on Honor” a long the back. After deciding on where we wanted to have them, we took the iron to the robes. After ironing on the letters we wrapped the robes up and gave them to the bridesmaids. These robes cost us a total of $85. That was the equivalent to buying one of the custom robes online.

Moral of the story is that if you try hard enough, you can save money buy doing things yourself!

Handmade Jewelry – Stylish Bangles for Less than $1

Jewelry is a great thing to have to accessorize any outfit and make it look ten times better. But what happens if you don’t have the right jewelry to match an outfit? That’s no problem because there is a thing called handmade jewelry.

A good example of a situation where handmade jewelry came in handy for me was when I went to a “Tight and Bright” event with my friends. I had my outfit which was full of bright, neon colours. However, I felt as though something was missing. I checked the dollar store for some cheap jewelry, but there was nothing that really caught my eye. So instead, I decided to buy a few dollar store items to participate in some jewelry making of my own.
(Collier, 2012)

I bought some plastic bracelets and brightly-coloured mason line. I then wrapped the mason line around the bracelet. Once the bracelet was wrapped, I cut the string and clued the ends onto the bracelet with craft glue. I ended up making four different neon coloured bracelets that went perfectly with the outfit that I was wearing to the Tight and Bright event.

The lesson I learned at the end of my jewelry making adventure is that making handmade jewelry is very resourceful, especially when you can’t find the exact item that you’re looking for in store. Have you ever tried to make cheap jewelry? If so, how did it turn out?
